The Callback Audition That Never Was

08Oct08

A callback audition to an actor is like an unexpected Christmas bonus. You didn’t really see it coming. But, damn right, you deserve it. All that hard work has finally paid off. It’s time to book something. Time to start acting. Even if it means acting like a taxi driver who gets spooked at the sight of a clown rising from a manhole, only to realize that he has stumbled onto a movie set.

I was thrilled to receive notice of the callback. I wore the same clothes from the first audition. I arrived early. I was prepared.

I was also misinformed.

“Didn’t we see you already?” asked the casting director.

“Yes.” I replied.

“That’s what I thought. This isn’t a callback. They must have made a mistake.” she explained.

“Oh… er…… Those guys!…Ha ha ha ha ha… Thanks… ha ha ha…..” I surrendered.
