I Do Not Live On Main Street

Dear Politicians:

The tired phrase of the week has to be some combination of “Wall Street” and “Main Street.” Please knock it off.

Presumably, when you refer to Main Street, you’re talking about the average, every day American.

Yes, there is a Main Street in Los Angeles, and I’m sure a lot of people live there. Some have lofts, while others have alleys. The difference is just a few blocks. But, I do not live there. I do not live anywhere on Main Street.

Main Street is a place with fudge and waffle cones, penny arcades and barbershop quartets. It is ice cream and popcorn, and a chorus of cash registers. And it’s in Orlando.

So, when I hear you talking about “helping Main Street,” it makes think of Disney World. They do not need help.

So, stop it.
