Hollywood Moving to New York?

When Tina Fey mentioned the city of New York and the great tax incentives for production companies during her recent Emmy acceptance speech, you could hear a pin drop in the Nokia Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles.

You could also hear moving trucks idling in the distance.

There’s been a lot of talk about production companies moving their operations to other cities because of better tax incentives. CurbedLA points to stories today in both the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times about the trend.

While any massive defection from L.A. has yet to occur, one has to wonder how far away that may be with the current economic crisis facing California. Will more shows pick up and relocate for better tax breaks elsewhere? Will Los Angeles still be the center of production in 20 years? 10? 5?

One has to wonder. Especially when you’re an actor who has packed your life into your car and mapping your way out West.
