Lights Out Los Angeles

San Francisco is turning out the lights.
During Lights Out San Francisco, our neighbors to the North are staging a citywide energy conservation effort on Oct. 20 by turning off all non-essential lighting for one hour, and installing compact fluorescent light bulbs. Even the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz Island will go dark.
This should happen every year, in every city in America. San Francisco is setting an amazing example in the effort to fight global warming. Shouldn’t Los Angeles feel a little upstaged?
Why not have a Lights Out L.A.? Why not take it even further?
For one hour…
- Turn off all non-essential lights
- Unplug all devices that are on standby
- Stay off all freeways
- Cease all music and film production citywide
- Discontinue all internet usage
Crazy, yes. But, what is one hour? Light some candles, have the neighbors over, and have a few drinks. You just got the whole world’s attention, and saved it at the same time.
