The 24-Hour One Act Challenge
I recently had the privilege of participating in a 24-Hour One Act Challenge at the Howard Fine Acting Studio with Heidi Helen Davis. It’s a simple premise. Students who have been part of the Studio for at least one year can be involved as a writer, director, or an actor. Writers script a short play between 8-10 pages in length, directors are assigned a script, and actors are cast in the roles. We were given scripts on Saturday night at 7pm, and each cast did a reading on stage. After meeting with our directors for a short time after, we were left to our own methods of crash preparation until our 9:30am rehearsal the next morning, with shows scheduled for 7:15 and 9:30 Sunday night.

Method Fest 2008

Method Fest celebrates its 10th year of recognizing acting in independent film.
Tonight is Opening Night in Calabassas, for the only United States festival that places its focus on acting. Helen Hunt and Mary Stuart Masterson both make their feature directing debut.
25 features and 48 short films will be screened at this year’s Method Fest. Ticket prices start at $10 for most individual screenings.
The Los Angeles Women’s Theatre Festival, billed as a multicultural festival of solo women, kicks off at El Portal Theatre Thursday, March 27th. Look for Ted Lange of Love Boat fame to share hosting duties with Becker’s Hattie Winston.
Tickets start at $25.
Last Remaining Seats 2008

The 2008 lineup for the Last Remaining Seats series has been announced by the Los Angeles Conservancy. Classic films shown in historic L.A. theaters makes this an event not to be missed. Early discount tickets are available online to members of the Conservancy beginning Wednesday, April 9 at 10:00 a.m. Tickets go on sale to the general public April 23. There aren’t that many films, and they will sell out quickly. The price of admission is worth it just to see each theater.
